God be Praised Notes Lesson 13, Book I, English 1st Year, portrays the transformation in the life of Maulvi Abul Barkat, also known as Abul, before and after his marriage. Before his marriage, Maulvi Abul lived a life of comfort and even extravagance. He was known for his distinctive attire, with a light brown Mashadi lungi turban from Iran and a gilded cap with a shining tip. He carried a decorative walking stick and used fragrant oil for his hair, leaving a sweet scent in the village lanes as he walked by.
Maulvi Abul was known for his generosity, distributing a portion of the funds collected from devotees during Eid among the needy in his village. Despite his wealth and status, he always humbly acknowledged the blessings of Allah and discouraged others from praying for him.
However, the changing times and rising prices posed challenges, such as the high cost of shoes for his youngest daughter. This story beautifully illustrates the complexities of life and the changes one must adapt to over time, even as Maulvi Abul’s love and concern for his family remain constant.
