English Unit 2 Patriotism 9th Class

Patriotism is a deep love and devotion towards one’s motherland or country. A true patriot holds his or her country in high regard and is willing to make sacrifices when the need arises. The word “patriot” originates from the Latin word “patriota,” meaning countryman, and is considered a commendable quality.

For a patriot, the well-being of the country and its people holds paramount importance, and they possess the strength and courage to protect and safeguard the nation’s interests. The sovereignty, integrity, and honor of the country are values that a patriot would never compromise on, and they are willing to offer sacrifices to preserve and protect these values.

Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, a nation builder and a great patriot, sought to safeguard the values, culture, and traditions of the Muslims in the subcontinent. He led the Muslims in their struggle for a separate homeland, providing them with a sense of identity. His vision of a united and strong nation was founded on a strong sense of patriotism.

The spirit of patriotism in Pakistan’s history has been evident during times of foreign invasion. Numerous instances exist where people sacrificed their lives to defend their homeland, particularly during the wars of 1965, 1971, and the Kargil War.

Brave soldiers like Captain Muhammad Sarwar, Major Tufail Muhammad, Major Aziz Bhatti, Pilot Officer Rashid Minhas, Major Muhammad Akram, Major Shabbir Shareef, Sowar Muhammad Hussain, Lance Naik Muhammad Mehfooz, Captain Karnal Sher Khan, and Havildar Lalak Jan embraced martyrdom while valiantly fighting for their country.

These true patriots were honored with Nishan-e-Haider, the highest military award in Pakistan, recognizing their extraordinary sacrifices for the nation.
