The major causes of noise pollution in Pakistan are traffic on roads, construction sites, careless use of electronic appliances, and loud speech patterns. The increasing vehicular traffic in urban areas has resulted in unwarranted honking, contributing to noise pollution. Construction work in urban areas also adds to the noise levels with the use of equipment and machinery. Additionally, unmonitored use of technology such as mobile phones, electricity generators, music systems, and TVs contributes to noise pollution, as people do not exercise civic responsibility in controlling noise levels.
Noise pollution negatively impacts human health, leading to aggression, hypertension, high stress levels, hearing loss, restlessness, depression, insomnia, anxiety, and emotional stress. It can also affect learners’ mental and physical well-being.
To address noise pollution, the government must enforce recommended noise level limits in residential and commercial areas. Measures like ensuring smooth traffic flow, using noise barriers, and expediting construction work to minimize noise pollution are essential. Residential societies should implement rules to control noise levels, and public places like offices, hospitals, and schools should strictly prohibit the use of mobile phones. Awareness about the harmful impact of noise on health is crucial, and individuals should adopt responsible attitudes to minimize noise pollution.
Overall, efforts at the local and state levels, along with public awareness, can create a quieter and peaceful environment in the country.
